At the Café, volunteers prepare and serve hot meals to members of the community and ensure that the kitchen and dining room meet all hygienic and health standards. Many of the volunteers have stated that serving food to our participant families is the most rewarding work.
OUR Center serves hot meals seven days a week. Because our offices are closed on the weekends, we rely on volunteers to ensure that meals are also served on weekends and holidays. Many volunteer groups from varying backgrounds come together and serve the community.
Finally, at the Market, volunteers are responsible for assisting participant families with their grocery needs as required. The Market is set up to ensure that families of all sizes get the food they need through a point system. A family of one or two will have a few points available in each section – canned goods, produce, dairy, protein, etc. A family of four requires more food than a family of two, so more “points” are allotted. We aim to create and maintain personal connections with our community, and the Market is one method to do so.
Without a doubt, our Cafe and Market wouldn’t be run without the help of our fantastic volunteers.
